Trust Your Own Instincts
I have read some fascinating spiritual books which answered so many of my questions and have been invaluable in helping me learn about the spirit world and, most importantly, have helped me decide for myself what ‘feels right’ to me personally. One of my favorite books is Answers for an Enquiring Mind: Spiritual Teachings from White Feather by Robert Goodwin. Among many lessons this book taught me, is that regardless of what someone tells me, what I have been raised to believe, or what a book says, it is very important to trust my own instincts. If it doesn’t ‘feel right’ I discard that information. Maybe at a later time it will come to make sense to me, but maybe not. The most important thing is to only believe what ‘feels’ right to you deep down inside. I believe instinct is so important, and is the best way of judging the truth, whether it is a person, a situation or a piece of information.
It hasn’t always been so easy for me to trust my own instincts. Having Faith living alongside me, with an ability to ‘ask’ for answers is all too tempting. There have been several occasions over the years when I’ve been anxious about which decision is best for our family or the children, and instead of trusting my own instincts, I have asked spirit for the answer through Faith. There have been many occasions when she has answered, “They can’t tell you, you have to decide yourself,” or they show her a speech bubble with the words “Trust your instincts,” instead of answering my question. For important decisions, they are often willing to offer me some ‘guidance’, but they are very clear that I must choose for myself.
If we do not trust our own instincts and we instead follow others, or rely on someone else to choose for us, we are not learning and growing as much as we could. As with a child, there are some lessons which we cannot teach them, but which they must learn for themselves through experience.
